Great ideas for backyard grilling

A favorite summer activity, BBQ grilling makes for great food at gatherings with family and friends. Whether grilling over a fire pit on a camping adventure, or firing up the grill in the outdoor kitchen, nothing taste better than fresh food straight from the grill.

Fresh vegetables from the summer garden make for a tasty side dish. Everything from cherry tomatoes to zucchini and squash can be grilled over the flames on a kabob skewer or wrapped in foil with fresh seasonings and a bit of olive oil or butter.

Several fruits also grill nicely and make for some sweet and fun desserts. Bananas, pineapple, fresh peaches and sliced apples all make for great fruit treats. Brown sugar and cinnamon are key ingredients to flavorsome grilled fruits. Serve these dishes a la mode for a delicious taste that will have them asking for more.

The internet and cookbooks are full of numerous unique dishes for BBQ grilling including: grilled pizza, twice baked potatoes on the grill, parmesan bread, peach pound cake, grilled sandwiches, bacon wrapped asparagus, deer poppers, shrimp quesadillas and more.

Of course BBQ grilling wouldn’t be what it is without the classics – hamburgers, hot dogs, chicken and bratwurst. And the classics will never taste the same when topped with some non-traditional toppings such as; pimento cheese, salsa, chili, carmelized onions, and shredded orange. The possibilities are endless.

Whatever the occasion and what is on the flames, always keep safety in mind when grilling especially when young children are around. Set the grill at least 10 feet away from objects and shrubs, always stay near the grill when it is on and always keep small children away from the grill until it has cooled.
