Great Vegetable ideas for the grill


During the summer months it is essential to take full advantage of your grill. It keeps the heat from cooking out of your home which helps to lower your over all cooling bill. But, the other great thing is the wonderful tastes you can achieve from grilling for all types of foods.

Many people feel that vegetables are meant to be steamed or boiled and that is pretty much it, well, we say no way! There are lots more options when you have a grill. Let’s get started.

Potatoes:

Any kind of potatoes will due, you can even grab the marvelous sweet potatoes. After you have cleaned the potatoes, slice the potatoes in half, on the open side, drizzle a touch of olive oil on the raw edge, next, top with some spices like salt, pepper, oregano and garlic.

For a sweet potato a good thing to do is take melted butter, drizzle over the raw edges then add a little cinnamon. No need for sugar, the sweet potato has its own great sweet flavor.

You can also make baked potatoes on the grill. Prepare the potatoes as normal for oven, but, instead wrap the potatoes in foil. After you have gotten your fire started place the potatoes around and in the fire, this will get the heat good and into the potatoes, but protected by the aluminum. It will take a bit of time to cook them properly, you may want to consider cooking the potatoes first for a little while, then starting your meat on the grill.

Squash:

Squash happens to be the most popular vegetable to grill. Slice the squash thick to keep it from becoming to limp while on the grill. This will help keep the interior of the vegetable nice and moist. This is another great veggie to drizzle with olive oil and then apply spices if you wish.

Zucchini, Summer Squash and Pada-pan squash are some of the most popular of the squashes to grill, however, you might also want to consider acorn or even the spaghetti squash both also turn out quite well on the grill.

It is always a great idea to experiment with other vegetables, you will be amazed at what you can find and what your family will love. From onions to tomatoes or how about even some pineapple. The possibilities are limitless.
